AMTRON was established in 1984 under the aegis of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Assam to promote, establish and develop Electronics and allied industries in the State. AMTRON was instrumental in setting up the first State sector B&W and Color TV assembly unit in the North East in 1985. It also ventured into Power Electronics Sector in 1988 in a Joint Venture with a private party. AMTRON’s foray into IT sector started in 1988 with the establishment of Data Processing and Software Development Center. An IT Training and Consultancy cell also started functioning at the same time. With the inception of the Department of Information Technology in 2003, AMTRON was brought under the department in the same year.
