The main objective of the Digital Literacy Programme is to use technology to bridge the digital gap and create awareness amongst the people about government schemes and programmes.
Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam, launched the Digital Literacy Programme on 24th August 2016 in 126 gram panchayats, one each in every constituency of the state. Under the programme, 126 gram panchayats have been selected for the initial 100 days of the programme, which will be replicated all over the state in future.

National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM) has been initiated with the vision to empower at least one person per household with crucial digital literacy skills by 2020. This is expected to touch the lives of more than 250 million individuals over the next few years. NDLM is an effort to complement government’s vision to transform one from each household as digitally literate. The project aims at helping adults with low technological literacy develop the skills they need to interact in an increasingly digital world.
The Government of India formulated Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (DISHA) or the National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM) to benefit e-governance and e-commerce. Government of Assam has initiated the Digital Literacy Program in the State, in line with the NDLM and DISHA to enable the project to have far reaching impact, and to provide support to the mission.
